Idaho City 100..Epic old School Enduro

Epic event, similar to our conditions in Alberta, a late winter, extreme amounts of snow and lots of rain in the days and weeks prior to the event, left the Boise Ridge Riders in negotiations with the US forest Service to gain access to new land. This meant about 40% of the course were new trails! Very EPIC!

Day one times were very tight with AA riders and only a select few able to stay on time. Cole finished the day 8th position in his class, 250 2 stroke/450 4 stroke A. I managed to squeak out a 5th in A Open. At the end of the day we changed air filters, I changed oil,, and we were good for day 2. We had zero issues with bikes! Then onto a quick supper, then the drive back to Boise, a couple groceries, a hot tub, more food..and bed at 9 pm.

We all woke rested, a little stiff, but not bad considrring we rode 130 miles in 7 hrs. As we exited the truck in Idaho city, Cole was looking a little white and was quiet, and when I asked him what was up, he said maybe breakfast… Junior was about to unload his gutz! Not good! I got him some gut meds, and things came around for him. By the time the start came around, Cole was smilin’ and Jack was smack talkin him. Again, the weather was perfect, forcasted mid 70s and sun, just like Sat. They removed a loop and added time, so it wouldn’t be a 7 hour hare scramble as Saturday was. First section was good, Cole and I fell into a good groove, making good time. I let Cole start the tests ahead of me, he was rockin it and riding faster than I was. Only saw him once in a test all weekend. It wasn’t until the second test that I found my mojo, the 5 hrs of riding this season and no training had left me winded…very winded! But..Rochers EE suspension is KILLER! I let the A1 saturday winner start the second test ahead of me, and I caught him right away when he bobbled in the approach to a hill. It was a long test of tight mountain single track, very similar to our tracks… No pick action here, 8 inch wide trail with your peg dragging on the uphill side and a long way down if you slipped off. The last 3/4 minutes of the test was typical fast ridge top, whooped out, roots, stumps, kelly dykes, etc. I kept ahead of the A1 fastguy, so I was stoked…never been able to push that hard without having to work the bike to maintain control…downhill kellydykes on the the gas!! And super supple on the square edges;)  Hats off to Rob at Rocher Sales and his EE suspension !

We had plenty of time at checks, Cole and I freightrained and passed dudes all over. We caught one dude ona fire road, he wasn’t letting me by, so I set him up on a long sweeping left, against the mountain, I went way wide on him and motored past… I was all happy with myself, when I was telling Cole the story..then he said he pasted the guy on the inside of the same corner! Berg Sandwich!

Cole and I started the day trading the lead from checkpoints, but I couldn’t keep pace with him..he was hauling and no crashing. He learned lots, rode smart, he’s learning short cuts on making the trail smoother and also popping stuff to avoid rough stuff.

Knowing how strong he rode, it did not suprise me to see that he won the day!  THere are a few mistakes in the results, where Jordan Reed is listed as the winner in A2, but he is riding a 250f, and is in the wrong class…and good on him, he won A1 yesterday!!..But, yes, technically, Cole won A2 and was 10th overall in the A class!!! Great work for the young gun!  I had a much better day and finished 4th in A3 and 15th A, 5 places behind Cole.

Cole rode smart and finished well..and day one was easily equivalent to a TOUGH day at the six days. A few comments in the pits about it being the toughest 100 they had seen..   I always enjoy this event, its the third time I’ve rode it.  Great trails, great road trip, great friends, all is well!!  If you ever get a chance to ride it, give it a go, you won’t regreat it.

time to run, getting back to work on Xtinction, and CG coming up!! Dont’ miss it!!
